Coming To Swansea Bay

Coming By Train

Swansea Bay is served by Arriva Trains Wales and Great Western Railway. Most parts of the UK are linked to Swansea Bay (Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot) by a train every hour weekdays (generally less frequent Sundays) either direct or with one interchange en route. London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Bristol International and Cardiff International have good rail/air links with Swansea Bay.

 

Direct Trains without interchange

 

London Paddington, Reading, Swindon & Bristol Parkway to Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot at least every hour daytime Mondays to Sundays – operated by Great Western Railway.

 

Manchester, Crewe, Shrewsbury & Hereford to Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot every hour weekdays, less frequent Sundays – operated by Arriva Trains Wales

 

Newport & Cardiff to Swansea at least two per hour weekdays, one per hour Sundays – operated by Arriva Trains Wales & Great Western Railway.

 

Tickets

 

Low cost ‘advance’ tickets available on many trains to Swansea Bay; these must be booked in advance and usually available only on off-peak trains. These and other tickets can be booked at any UK staffed station or online through train companies or independent ticket retailers’ websites.

 

Explore Gower one-day (£5.40) and three-day £13.00) tickets can be purchased at any UK staffed station with your train ticket and are valid on all First Cymru and NAT buses in Swansea city, Mumbles and Gower.

 

Plus Bus day tickets (£2.50) can be purchased at any UK staffed station with your train ticket and are valid on First Cymru and South Wales Transport buses in Swansea city, Neath and Port Talbot.

 

Train arrival at Swansea

 

Buses leave from immediately outside the train station to the city centre, city bus station and the University Singleton campus. Recommended is Metro service 4 (every 12 minutes weekdays’ daytime c.0700-1900). Cross the road for buses to the Liberty Stadium and Swansea Valley; and to the University Bay Campus (service 10 every 20 minutes term time)

Buses to all parts of the area leave from the Victoria Gardens bus station (250m walk).

Buses to most parts of the area leave from the bus station (400m walk); to Margam Park and Maesteg, (X1, X3 & X4) also serve the train station.

 

Buses direct to Swansea University Bay Campus (X1 & X3) leave from outside the train station (every half-hour Mondays to Saturdays, daytime)

Park at one of Swansea’s three park & ride sites and take the frequent bus link to the city centre: only £2.50 for up to four people. For only £1.50 more, travel to any part of the city, Mumbles, Bishopston & Pennard by First Cymru bus.
